About 1:50 yesterday afternoon dispatchers received a call from a very emotional female, reporting that her son appeared to be shot, according to McComb Detective Shannon Sullivan.
The woman had come to 800 N. Railroad Blvd., Apt. 13 to check on her son, who lived there with another male. Officer Bryant Harper and other officers responded, finding a young black male with a gunshot wound around the head area. He was identified as Kevin Woodall, 19 years old.
Sullivan said it was obvious that he was deceased. He was believed to have been dead for a couple of hours. The detective division and supervisors were notified of the situation, and authorities began to interview witnesses in reference to the crime.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation was notified, and they arrived along with the Mississippi Crime Lab vehicle about 4:30 pm.
Sullivan told Southwest Broadcasting that the man who occupied the apartment with the victim was being interviewed at police headquarters as a person of interest. That person, who was not identified, is being held on a Department of Corrections warrant as a probation violator.
No motive for the killing has been released, and Deputy Chief Scott McKenzie remained at the scene until investigators completed their work at the apartment.
In other news, McComb police received a call to respond to the C Store at the Exxon station on Delaware Avenue at Interstate 55 shortly after five o’clock Friday morning to learn that a robbery had just occurred.
Three black males with stockings covering their heads had entered the business through front and back doors and displayed a gun, demanding money. As they left the store, they stole the vehicle belonging to the clerk, who was not injured by the robbers.
Police spotted the getaway vehicle, giving chase into the far east section of Pike County, where the three abandoned the vehicle and disappeared into woods.
The vehicle was recovered by police in the area near the Silver Creek Church later Friday. Officers studied the surveillance cameras at the C store, and interviewed witnesses in their investigation, which continues.
